Is Your Anti-Aging
Product Damaging Your Skin?

Many people use anti-aging products in hopes of keeping their skin
young looking. How well these products work, however, depends on the
quality of ingredients. Studies show inexpensive, cheaply made
anti-aging products can actually cause damage to the skin and made
it look older after long-term use than it would have if no
anti-aging product were used at all. Ingredients included in the
manufacturing of anti-aging cream that can damage the skin include
mineral oil, Propylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, fragrances and
synthetic colors.
Mineral oil is one ingredient often included in the manufacturing of
anti-aging cream. Although it may seem harmless enough, this oil can
damage your skin over the long term. Mineral oil is included in many
cosmetics as a carrier oil. It is commonly used in the manufacturing
of anti-aging cream because it is has no scent, has an unlimited
shelf life, and is cheap. Want to know the origin of mineral oil? It
is a by-product in the production of gasoline. Do you really want to
use any chemical related to gasoline on your face? Mineral oil clogs
your pores and throws off the skin’s ability to exchange nutrients
and oxygen. Over time this can lead to enlarged pores and saggy
wrinkled skin.
Another ingredient often found in anti-aging products is a chemical
called Triethanolamine (TEA). TEA is included in the manufacturing
of anti-aging cream because it balances the pH levels and supposedly
reduces skin irritation. However, the chemical TEA itself is a skin
irritant. Those handling the chemical are warned to wear gloves and
protective clothing. Seems a little ironic that a chemical used to
reduce skin irritation can actually cause irritation. The long-term
use of TEA can also cause dry skin, which leads to wrinkles and
premature aging of the skin.
Propylene Glycol is another chemical included in anti-aging
products. It is used in manufacturing of anti-aging cream because it
initially makes the skin look smoother. As with many other
chemicals, however, Propylene Glycol has a dark side. With long-term
use, Propylene Glycol makes the skin age faster by denaturing the
skin’s protein.
Two other nasty groups of chemicals included in many anti-aging
products are fragrances and synthetic colors. While these chemicals
may make a product look and smell good, that is about all they do.
Fragrances and synthetic colors can cause allergic reaction, rash,
and in the long term damage your skin and make it look old before
its time.
At this point you must be ready to read your labels and discard all
of those expensive designer cosmetics. One consolation is that here
are premier quality cosmetics that luxuriously nourish your skin and
return that useful appearance with no toxic effects.
The best advice when choosing an anti-aging product is to check the
list of ingredients before you buy. If any of these chemicals –
mineral oil, TEA, Propylene Glycol, fragrances or synthetic colors
are included – you need to consider putting it back on the shelf.
The long-term effects these chemicals can have on your skin far
outweigh any good the anti-aging product might do. All natural, no
chemical anti-aging products can be found at
