Many Sugar Effects and
Many Sugar Types
By

There is significant evidence that high sucrose diets may alter
intracellular metabolism, which in turn facilitates accelerated
aging through oxidative damage. Scientists found that the rats
given fructose had more undesirable cross-linking changes in the
collagen of their skin than in the other groups.
According to Nancy Appleton, Ph.D., the consumption of fructose
(corn syrup) has risen considerably in the general population within
recent years. In 1980 the average person ate 39 pounds of fructose
and 84 pounds of sucrose. In 1994, the average person ate 66 pounds
of sucrose and 83 pounds of fructose. These 149 pounds are
approximately 19% of the average person’s diet.
Many doctors were recommending fructose instead of glucose and
sucrose. Today fructose is not only being used by some diabetics
but it is used for a variety of foods, drinks, and confectionery
around the world. It is used for candies for diabetics, desserts
for weight watchers, drinks for athletes and foods for all types.
Fructose is not metabolized the same as other sugars. Instead of
being converted to glucose which the body uses, it is removed by the
liver.
This increase is due to several factors. There was a decreased use
of cane and beet sugar (sucrose) in processed foods and a wide
spread use of corn syrup due to economics. Corn is much cheaper and
twice as sweet as table sugar. It is absorbed only 40% as quickly
as glucose and causes only a modest rise in blood sugar.
Sodas may contain between 10-14 teaspoons of sugar and even fruit
juices. Read labels and minimize. Better alternatives for sweeteners
are plant derived stevia or xylitol. Eating the entire fruit which
contains natural fructose will also keep insulin levels reduced and
will minimize weight gain.
Avoiding sweetened drinks both natural and artificial is the best
policy for reducing sugar
Fructose is a refined sugar that has no enzymes, vitamins, minerals,
and robs the body of its own micronutrients in order to be
assimilated. Beware of this toxic sweetener contained in many
so-called health foods.
Fructose reduced the affinity of insulin for its receptor. This is
the first step for glucose to enter a cell and be metabolized. As a
result, the body needs to pump out more insulin, to handle the same
amount of glucose. I have used glucose tolerance factor to retrain
and reduce sugar cravings. This is found naturally in nutritional
yeast flakes.
I recommend an ideal protein meal replacement for meals and weight
loss Dream Protein which actually regulates insulin levels
and is sweetened with stevia and has 20 grams of protein. Gymnema
Sylvestre is an herb which improves pancreatic function and reduces
sugar cravings.
The absolute worst choices of sweeteners are sucralose aka Splenda
and Aspartame aka Equal and NutraSweet. Splenda contains chlorine,
has limited safety testing and is found to remain in the body and
often trigger headaches and severe gastro intestinal symptoms.
Aspartame should be avoided completely since it is a toxic chemical
sweetener contained in numerous consumer products. It is a powerful
neurotoxin with the ability to powerfully disrupt normal
cardiovascular, hormone and nervous system.
